COSCHARIS MOTORS UNVEILS THE NEW FORD EVEREST AT THE LAGOS INTERNATIONAL MOTOR FAIR

  • Coscharis Motors debuts the new Ford Everest to the Nigerian market
  • 2019 Ford Everest delivers refreshed design, more luxurious interior, improved comfort and luxury on XLT series
  • Updated suspension configuration delivers greater ride refinement, better steering precision and control

LAGOS, NIGERIA, 08 May 2019 – Coscharis Motors, exclusive distributor of Ford vehicles in Nigeria, will be unveiling the new Everest XLT Range and Everest Limited at the Lagos International Motor Show. The show, is in its 14th year, and will be held from 6 to 11 May in Lagos, Nigeria.

The new Ford Everest is the most sophisticated Everest seven-seater sport utility vehicle (SUV) on the market. It is more appealing than ever with a range of styling, suspension and feature upgrades. As Ford’s premium offering in the rapidly growing SUV market, the New Everest puts the emphasis on quality, refinement and luxury matched to exceptional space and practicality.

“We are excited the new Everest will be joining our local line-up. The new Everest will provide Ford an important position in the SUV segment, it is a segment which continues to grow in Africa, as well as around the world. Consumers are opting for versatile, family-oriented vehicles that suit their active lifestyles,” says Abiona Babarinde, GM of Marketing and Communications at Coscharis Motors.

“With the New Everest, we have raised the game even further by introducing subtle yet effective styling updates with the eye-catching exterior, providing a more refined and luxurious cabin environment, adding several new trend-setting technologies to the already feature-packed range, and building on the outgoing model’s superb comfort and ride refinement with a revised suspension set-up. More so, the Everest comes in diesel engines, which is what some of our oil services customers have been yearning for, as it is more ideal for access into highly inflammable locations than its petrol counterpart.”

Refreshed design emphasises exclusivity and capability

The New Everest communicates rugged off-road capability with a sense of refined artistry that takes Ford’s seven-seater SUV to a new level within the segment. The refreshed grille introduces a new level of depth to the design through the layering of three distinctive grille bars that exude exclusivity and luxury whilst presenting a sense of strength and robustness.

The lower bumper has been redesigned to accentuate width, incorporating a connected horizontal beam that has been added to the fascia insert, which gives the Everest even greater on-road presence.

A classy new 20-inch wheel has been introduced on the range-topping Everest Limited, featuring a modern split spoke design that gives the vehicle a more upmarket and dynamic appearance.

Ford has also upped the ante in terms of overall quality and refinement, employing a more purposeful execution of colours and materials. Stronger contrasting elements are employed with the addition of the secondary grille texture against the chrome bright work.

The accents move from a single-layer satin metallic to a two-layer glossy metallic paint, giving a more liquid-like feel for customers expecting outstanding quality. The wheel accent paints are now darker to further accentuate the machine-cut surface of the alloys, adding more drama and a more premium look to the overall appearance.

A new exterior body colour has been added to the line-up: Diffused Silver is designed as a modern take on the typical luxury beige. It communicates toughness with its added depth and also sophistication with its smooth champagne highlights.

Exceptional quality and refinement

The New Everest provides premium levels of quality, outstanding interior space and maximum versatility – now with a selection of new, richer materials and design details that emphasise luxury and style throughout.

The introduction of the Ebony environment colour changes the entire ambience of the interior cabin. The added depth allows the details and bright work to stand out and further aligns the interior to the customer’s expectation for a premium SUV, complemented by a greater selection of soft-touch materials.

Adding further exclusivity to the cabin is the use of contrast stitching on the Everest Limited, along with shadow chrome finishes, perforated leather and high-quality paints that add further lustre to the upgraded interior.

Proven 2.2 and 3.2-litre Duratorq TDCi performance

The current 2.2-litre Duratorq TDCi engine, with 118kW and 385Nm, is available in the Everest XLT derivatives, with a choice of six-speed manual or automatic derivatives. An electronic differential lock is standard across the Everest range to enhance off-road capability.

Customers also have the option of the powerful 3.2-litre five-cylinder TDCi engine on the XLT model with 147kW and 470Nm on tap, matched to a six-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel drive.

All Everest 4×4 models are equipped with Ford’s seamless and intuitive Terrain Management System that facilitates easy switching between Normal, Rock Crawl, Mud and Sand modes to suit the driving conditions.

Improved ride comfort and refinement

As with the New Ford Ranger, the New Everest has benefited from numerous suspension improvements that further enhance ride quality and refinement. Most notably, the front-mounted stabiliser bar has been moved to the rear of the front axle, which allows for greater packaging and design freedom, along with an increase in diameter and stiffness to give the Everest improved roll control and handling performance.

The revised layout has also enabled a reduction in front spring rates, thus achieving an even more comfortable and pliant ride. Additionally, the jounce bumper, which softens the impact when the suspension is fully compressed over severe bumps, has been relocated from the lower control arm to the damper rod at the top of the suspension, thereby reducing the load on the suspension bushes. This gives an improved ride and reduced noise levels.

Overall suspension compliance has been improved, with three damper tunes being adopted for the New Everest range in place of the single set-up used previously. This ensures that the ride characteristics are better tailored to the engine and drivetrain configurations, resulting in a plusher ride over rough surfaces without impacting the Everest’s maximum towing capacity of 3 000kg with a braked trailer.

The extensive suspension refinements have also enabled a reduction in tyre pressures from 240 to 210 kPa, further enhancing overall comfort and isolating the occupants from road imperfections. At the same time, steering precision and control has also been improved.

Technology and safety

A new addition to the Everest’s impressive range of high-tech features is the Passive Entry and Passive Start (PEPS) system, fitted as standard on the XLT and Limited models. The keyless entry and passive start uses an intelligent access system that allows the driver to unlock the vehicle and start the engine without removing the key fob from their pocket or bag. When the key is in the vehicle, the driver simply presses the Start/Stop button while applying the brake pedal to start the car.

The Everest Limited continues to set the benchmark for active driving features, including Semi-Automatic Parallel Park Assist (SAPPA) that uses ultrasonic sensors on the front and rear bumpers to search for and identify parking spaces that are big enough to parallel park the vehicle. A combination of the Everest’s electric power-assisted steering (EPAS) and sensors are used to steer the vehicle safely and perfectly into place, while the driver simply operates the gears, accelerator and brake.

Additional standard appointments on the Limited include Adaptive Cruise Control with Forward Collision Alert (which now recognises pedestrians, in addition to its ability to detect other vehicles), Lane Keeping Aid and Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Information System with cross-traffic alert, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and  Auto High Beam Control for the high intensity discharge (HID) headlamps.

The impressive standard safety package across the line-up extends to Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system with Traction Control (TC), Trailer Sway Control (TSC), Hill Start Assist (HSA), Hill Descent Control (HDC) on the 4×4 models, Load Adaptive control (LAC) and Roll Over Mitigation (ROM).

A full Category 1 Thatcham-specification alarm is now standard on all Everest XLT and Limited models for enhanced anti-theft security.

SYNC® infotainment system

Ford’s pioneering SYNC® technology offers exceptional connectivity and multimedia options, along with intuitive voice control and ease of use. SYNC®3 with Navigation is standard on the Everest Limited model, linked to the integrated eight-inch touch-screen colour display, two USB ports and Bluetooth connectivity.

The system boasts fully-featured embedded navigation, convenient multi-touch gestures (such as swipe, slide, scroll and pinch-to-zoom), plus voice recognition that uses simple, real-world voice commands.

SYNC®3 with Navigation provides a full 3D experience with an elevated map view, enhanced full colour graphics and point of interest (POI) building images. Similar to searching on Google, destinations can be entered via the simple one-box search by typing the address, POI category, intersection, city name, post code or GPS coordinates. The search function is predictive, with results appearing as the information is typed. Voice commands can also be used to select a POI.

Tracks4Africa is included in the package, as well as access to maps for over 20 countries in Africa. Free annual map updates are included for a period of five years, and the text and voice guidance functions are available in a multitude of languages, comprising Afrikaans, Arabic, English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish and isiZulu.

SYNC®3 also offers the benefits of smartphone integration provided through Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, which transforms the phone’s connectivity with the car. Through Apple CarPlay, SYNC 3 can be used to access Siri, make calls, return missed calls and listen to voice mail, as well as send, read and reply to text messages. Songs, playlists and compatible apps like Apple Maps, can also be accessed. Similar functionality is provided with Android Auto, with the Google platform used to interact with the phone, and access apps such as Google Maps. Waze users can now project the app’s real-time traffic and navigation service onto the touch screen in Ford vehicles via SYNC®3 AppLink® and control it through voice command.

To keep the system up to date, periodic wireless software updates for SYNC®3 can be downloaded via Wi-Fi, or manually, once it is set up on a trusted wireless network.

The Everest XLT come standard with Ford’s SYNC® 1 system with Bluetooth voice control and audio streaming, a 4.2-inch colour screen, as well as USB and Aux ports.

WELCOME SPEECH BY THE PRESIDENT OF COSCHARIS GROUP DR. COSMAS MADUKA, CON AT THE MEDIA LAUNCH OF THE COSCHARIS FORD SKD PLANT IN LEKKI ON FRIDAY, 13TH OCTOBER, 2017.

It is my singular honour and privilege to welcome you to this special event, which is to officially unveil our newly built Assembly Plant to you all as our media partners which is the first ever Ford Assembly Plant in Nigeria and indeed the entire Sub-Sahara Africa.

It has been a long wait from when we first announced in November 2015 that we had commenced physical structuring of the new Plant sighted on a piece of land of more than 14 Hectares within our Lekki Group head office in Lagos. Thus we are thankful to God that the day has finally come when you all shall witness the actual process of production taking place right here, in the Plant.

Indeed it is a dream come true.  Coscharis Group have been a great believer on the possibilities that lie ahead in this our great Nation and we have shown courage by the actions that we are taking in investing in the future of Nigeria.

Although we are here today, to unveil our newly built Assembly Plant for Ford brand but you are all aware of the giant steps Coscharis Group has taken in the last few years in the Agricultural Sector of our economy.

Today’s event is to showcase another initiative from our great organization, Coscharis Motors Plc, to further create value as a leading player in the automotive industry in Nigeria, in response to the clarion call of the Federal Government of Nigeria through the National Automotive Industry Development Plan (NAIDP). This is also to appreciate the confidence that the globally respected iconic brand, FORD, reposed in us as their exclusive official representative in Nigeria to roll out the very first Ford Assembly Plant in Nigeria. This milestone marks another first in the evolution of our company towards remaining timeless in its relevance.

The National Automotive Industry Development Plan aims, among other objectives, to discourage the importation of Completely Built vehicles and encourage the local manufacturing of vehicles through either Complete Knocked Down or Semi Knocked Down facilities for a start. We are aware that a few automobile companies have also initiated their process towards achieving this objective. However, at Coscharis Motors Plc, our concern and commitment to our loyal customers and stakeholders is to, as usual, set standards that other players will be judged by in the industry.

At the moment, our focus at the Plant is to rollout the Ford Ranger, which is a multipurpose mini-truck that serves well for both work and leisure. As you are all aware, Ford has a global standard for all of its products including the Ranger. Therefore, Ford’s certification of our facility and output is a confirmation that every single Ranger that rolls out of this plant is indeed “Built Ford Tough” from which we’ve rolled out over 600 units from this facility since we started operation; some of which are on display outside. But we will not rest on our oars as we are sure to wax stronger into the future with the introduction of other great Ford variants into the assembly line.

It might be news worthy to mention here that this is a capital intensive project, which also involves huge financial, technical and human resources commitment. Therefore the fact that we have ventured into it headlong underpins the level of confidence and hope we have for the future of the Nigerian automotive industry. This is to underscore the human capital opportunities that stand to be delivered in terms of employment and by extension the multiplier effect on the economic development of our dear country, Nigeria.

We have always dreamt of a Nigeria that will take its place in the global arena, a Nigeria that sits among the egalitarians in the committee of Nations, taken its rightful place in the pages of history.  Our factory is the second ever Ford manufacturing outfit in the entire African continent, outside of South Africa; something we indeed, are very proud of.  By this, Coscharis as an organization, reinforces its belief in the Nigerian project that this is the only country we have and absolutely nothing else.

So we have taken the challenge for our generation as a result of this huge investment we’ve taken as a strong believer in our dear country as an entity, we can only but demand for governmental support in terms of enabling environment vis-à-vis basic infrastructures that are required to keep the manufacturing process on and more importantly the purchase patronage of the finished products from the Plant.

Nelson Mandela once said that sometimes it falls upon a generation to be great and I say we can be that great generation but the only true way to let our greatness blossom is to dignify it via action.  It is therefore in reflection of all of these realities and celebration of the future possibilities that lies ahead, that we are gathered here today.

Once again, we are highly honoured for honoring our invitation to this special event as I invite you to join me and my team on a facility tour of this our state – of – the – art facility.

Thank you and God bless.

FORD AND COSCHARIS DELIGHT CUSTOMERS WITH DISCOUNTED SERVICE PARTS

LAGOS, Nigeria, DATE – In its quest to continually deliver quality aftersales service with genuine parts to its numerous loyal customers, Ford and its sole dealer in Nigeria, Coscharis Motors Plc, is giving out 10% discount on some select ford parts from now till end of September, 2017. This is in line with its commitment to safety and maintenance of its customers’ vehicles at various locations across the country.

According to Abiona Babarinde, General Manager, Marketing and Corporate Communications at Coscharis Group, “this aftersales campaign is timely and strategic to sustaining our leadership status when it comes to delivering value for money as it relates to our loyal customers.” Abiona further stated, “There is no gain-saying that the economic situation in the country has affected so many things including vehicle maintenance. This is the more reason why we have taken it upon ourselves as a customer-centric brand to give our loyal customers some relief in this challenging period. We want to excite our customers with these offerings of 10% discount on some select parts like brake, shocks, battery and service parts to cushion their expenses at this period at our various aftersales service centres and Quick Lane facilities that are now in many neighbourhoods across the country.”

To confirm the readiness of the company to the success story of this campaign, the National Parts Manager, Coscharis Motors Plc, Cyril Cruz said “we are fully stocked with all required genuine parts in all our aftersales centres which brings our service closer to you to make this campaign successful. We don’t want our customers to settle for substitutes. As has been proven again and again, counterfeit or substandard parts and lubricants may appear cheap in the beginning but in the long run, it is penny wise and pound foolish.”

Cyril maintained that substandard parts will appear to be working while they are in actual sense inflicting more damage on the vehicle. He also averred that Ford genuine parts come with manufacturer warranty and would be replaced under warranty if found to be faulty.

The programme also aims to promote the locations of the various Coscharis facilities that make up a comprehensive footprint in Nigeria, where it has 17 after-sales service centres as well as Certified Parts Wholesale Dealers (CPWD) partners and Ford-backed Quick Lane Tyre and Auto Centres.

Coscharis sees this as an ideal programme to build relationships with its Ford customers as their cars will be in safe hands. All the technicians working at the Ford dealerships are factory-trained and Ford-certified. Only genuine Ford or Motorcraft replacement parts and approved lubricants are used when servicing vehicles at Coscharis ford Service Centres. Genuine parts and approved lubricants are also available through CPWD outlets.

CG-Eko LLP Training Academy Convocates 41 Auto Technicians Trained In Modern Automobile Repairs and Servicing

CG-Eko LLP Training Academy, a sister company to Coscharis Motors Plc, had her first convocation ceremony on Friday, August 4, 2017. The academy convocated graduands from 3 admission batches:1st batch 2013 – 2015; 2nd batch 2014 – 2016; 3rd batch 2015 – 2017.

This was made possible through the Public/Private partnership between Coscharis and the state government, resulting in the creation of the CG-Eko LLP Training Academy located in Ikeja, Lagos.

Speaking during the joint convocation ceremony at the academy, the President/CEO of Coscharis Group, Dr. Cosmas Maduka said “the main objective of the academy is to deliver value added human resources to fill the vacuum created by the dearth of professional technicians, who are supposed to drive the fast growing automotive industry sector of our economy into a bright future”.

He added that “since admitting the first set of trainees in 2013, the academy has successfully wheeled out 41 graduates till date. Majority of the graduands here today have been absorbed into our organisation, some employed by other organizations, while some have become after-sales facility entrepreneurs”.

Some members of the Management Executive Team of Coscharis Group with 2013 – 2015 batch of graduands at the Convocation Ceremony for Auto Technicians from CG – Eko Training Academy facilitated by Coscharis Group recently in Lagos.

Maduka who was represented at the ceremony by the Deputy Managing Director, Mr. Okey Nwuke also stated that “we are thankful that we were able to contribute meaningfully into your lives via the offering of this training platform and pray that God will grant you the will to put the acquired skills and training into meaning practice for the advancement of the automotive industry in particular, Nigeria at large and humanity as a whole”.

He recalled that “when Coscharis Motors Plc, one of our subsidiaries in the group was to venture into the business of selling brand new globally respected iconic vehicles, we were guided by our vision, ”to build an institution that is timeless in its relevance”.

“At that point we knew that in order to remain timeless in our relevance to the automotive industry, we needed to do more than selling new vehicles – we needed to also establish an after-sales support base which will help to keep our customers’ vehicles on the road, performing optimally at all times. Because of the dearth of qualified technicians in the industry at the time, we had to embark on hiring of expatriates from other countries to man our after-sales facilities.”

In his remarks, the Training Manager, Mr. Sunday Tanimowo who revealed that the first batch of students were admitted August 1, 2013, affirmed that “without any iota of doubt, l can boldly say to all present that the graduands have passed through series of professional hands- on theoretical and practical training in the field of automobile engineering ranging from automobile repairs, service, maintenance, troubleshooting, automobile technology, workshop practice, digital electronics, leadership, management, CRM and  product knowledge”.

According to him, “in the first batch, 18 started journey in August 2013 but only 17 completed the rigorous training; Next are the second batch graduands: 17 was admitted in August 2014, only 14 were able to complete the race; lastly, the third batch graduands:  14 started the race, only 10 sailed through the journey”.

Some members of the Management Executive Team of Coscharis Group with 2014 – 2016 batch of graduands at the Convocation Ceremony for Auto Technicians from CG – Eko Training Academy facilitated by Coscharis Group recently in Lagos.

The best graduating student who spoke on behalf of others stated that “the class of 2015 graduated 17 students and 15 were employed by Coscharis group.  These students have in their individual ways distinguished themselves in the various departments they have been assigned.

“Fourteen students graduated in 2016 and 4 were employed by the company. They too are becoming indispensable players in the after-sale department where they were assigned.

“The class of 2017 is graduating 10 students. It is my humble prayer that the management of Coscharis group do consider the exploits and impacts of those earlier employed from the academy and employ these dynamic class of 2017.

“Our amiable chairman, Dr. Cosmas Maduka is known for his big heart and accommodating nature and I plead that he stretches it a bit more to accommodate these promising young talented and skilled graduands.  To borrow the words of the late Nelson Mandela “A good head and a good heart are always a formidable combination”.

Some members of the Management Executive Team of Coscharis Group with 2015 – 2017 batch of graduands at the Convocation Ceremony for Auto Technicians from CG – Eko Training Academy facilitated by Coscharis Group recently in Lagos.
